So just as I try to get through each day saying to my self, “I can resist, I must resist, WE can resist, WE must resist”, I begin to read news notes here and there on my FB feed (as this is how I keep in touch with friends and family that are far away), and see even crazier things happening and accelerating.
As a retired educator, the pick of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Ed was a kick in the stomach. I really believe the republican party with the help of Hair Dicktator want to dismantle public ed and will succeed because it is an easy target. In my science fiction head, scenes from “The Boys from Brazil” emerge.
Then the Hair picks all these military guys, some off the rail CRAY CRAY…..and in my mind, I see the world of “Dr. Strangelove”.
With all the power in the hands of the right, various favorite science fiction reads are all swirling around in my head. The CLIMATE DENIAL DUDES in charge may clearly set the stage for “The Missing Persons’ League” (a middle school book I used to read with my classes but I think readable for most adults too); or “Elysium”, the movie, or the Margaret Atwood Trilogy ending with “MaddAddam”. Of course thinking about Margaret Atwood and all the crazy religious zealots Hair Dicktator will appoint cause he wants them to love him and he does not give a sh*t about any of that stuff anyway, brings to mind, “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Then again, ever since his campaign started and the way the media went along with his lies (and still do), one cannot escape the whole Max Headroom scenario, what with the future president being a reality TV star. And most of all the whole Orwellian thing is flying smack in our faces. One day is country is the enemy, then they are the friend, then vice versa.
So what do you all think? Any suggestions as to what science fiction world we will be migrating? Or have imposed on us?
