BIG TIME RANT. Read no further if all you want to tell me is to “get over it”, or it’ s your own fault for having a “flawed” candidate (cause apparently the male candidates are never “FLAWED” they just lose). Read no further if you are going to tell me “then prepare to keep losing elections because we cannot win without the sexist, racist, bigoted white middle class.” I don’t believe it and never will.
Those people were NEVER on our side. Those “Reagan dems”, union guys who betrayed their unions in the 80s are a big part of the reason “factories” got moved. Reagan and his cronies put this all in motion long before NAFTA. Those Reagan Dems LOVED their unions as long as the unions kept out women and people of color. That is reality. Those union guys kept Scott Walker in office, and this included the police unions. And now nation wide Police unions supported Trump….
So what’s my point? I am so angry and it is not going away. People here and elsewhere keep wanting to blame Hillary or Hillary voters. The truth is this: Hillary was running on the most progressive platform ever. Hillary was moving left because women, most women I know are way more open to learning from their mistakes and moving to what works better. But because while seemingly it’s OK for some to rethink their positions, if Hillary did it, then it was evil and not real.
I was a Bernie voter but I never hated Hillary. WHY? Because as a woman of her age, I KNOW the kind of bullshit patronizing she has had to experience through out her life. I know how it feels when you not pretty enough, not sweet enough, or just “too smart” for your own good (actually was told that). I had a friend who so hated that I dared say I was a feminist, when he picked his wife and I up from the airport, he and his buddy carried all her luggage while she had nothing and I had to carry all my own stuff….cause ya know, some men think if you dare be fight for equal pay for equal work, it means carry your own stuff, open your own doors.
If you cry you’re too weak or it’s that time of the month. If you stand up to bullies you should not scream, you are too shrill or you are like “someone’s ex at the courthouse.” You ONLY got where you are because of your husband. And oh yea, his sins are your sins. Damn I am sick of it. It is 2016 and white male privilege has given us a fascist because boo hoo, THEY and only they (in their minds) are hurting because they lost their good paying jobs. Meanwhile people of color, women, immigrants, most of us never had the good paying jobs. But hey lets try to understand those poor working class white males. BULLSH*T and then some.
The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic white voters of “the heartland” can go shove it where the sun don’t shine. They go to their churches on Sundays, push their Christian religion as the ONLY WAY, while ignoring every thing the man for whom their churches were named, preached. HYPOCRITES, LIARS, willing to beat and kill and hurt to make sure their white rural ways remain in tact. They think the city folk look down on them? Boo Hoo, They are the ones who made sure BIG AG took over the family farms; they are the one who pushed the flag and the bible and voted to make sure the fascists won. I will not work to bring them into the fold because one thing the democratic party neither needs nor should want are a bunch of self-serving racists/sexist bullies.
What we need to do is to get ALL democrats to vote. Had they done so this time, or in 2000, our world sure would be different. In the meantime, my peers and I, the many senior citizens who have NEVER, would NEVER vote republican are bracing wondering if we will lose our Medicare and/or SS. I am sure Susan Sarandon and her ilk could care less about us. After all, she wanted to “make a point”.
